01
Pre-event briefing.
Brief call with the music coordinator to agree the categories, the scoring scale (we typically use a 1-25 scale split across tone, technique, interpretation, presentation), and the format of feedback delivery.
Adjudication · School music day
School-internal music competitions — house systems, year-group competitions, parents' day performances — benefit from a neutral outside adjudicator. Concerto sends a trained judge who knows the room (we work with schools every day), scores fairly, and delivers feedback that helps students grow rather than just rank.

What's included
01
Brief call with the music coordinator to agree the categories, the scoring scale (we typically use a 1-25 scale split across tone, technique, interpretation, presentation), and the format of feedback delivery.
02
Adjudicator attends in person, listens to every entry, scores live, takes per-entry notes. Standard adjudication etiquette — no in-round commentary.
03
Each entry receives a one-page feedback sheet within 72 hours. Students learn from the feedback as much as from the result.
04
For house / year-group competitions where the announcement is the highlight: 5-10 minute closing address — winners announced, trends commented, encouragement throughout.

Frequently asked
Half-day events (3–4 hours, 15–25 entries) are most common. Full-day events (6+ hours, 40+ entries) are typical for big schools. We can do both; the quote reflects the time commitment.
A common scale is 1-25 split across four equal dimensions: Tone (5), Technique (5), Interpretation (10), Presentation (5). We adapt the scale to your school's preference at the pre-event call.
Common in school events. We score each entry on its own grade-appropriate expectations rather than absolute level, so a strong Year 3 performance can win its category. We discuss this approach at the briefing call.
Yes — at the briefing call we offer category templates that work well: solo by instrument, solo by year group, small ensemble, choir, original composition. You pick what fits.
Generally not — adjudicating + MCing simultaneously dilutes the judging focus. We suggest a separate MC (often your own music staff or a senior student). We can do brief closing remarks instead.
Quoted per event. Variables: event duration, entry count, travel distance, depth of written feedback. Written quote within one working day.
