Adjudication · ABRSM mock exams

Realistic ABRSM mock exams.

Music schools and private teachers preparing students for ABRSM grades benefit from a realistic mock-exam round 2–4 weeks before the real thing. Concerto provides an independent adjudicator who runs each student through the full ABRSM structure (pieces, scales, sight-reading, aural) under exam conditions and delivers a real rubric-style report.

What's included

The engagement, end to end.

01

Pre-event setup.

Confirm the grade per student, instrument, exam date. Adjudicator reviews the official ABRSM rubric for those grades + instruments before the mock day.

02

Mock-exam delivery.

Each student plays the full exam: pieces → scales → sight-reading → aural. Adjudicator gives no in-the-moment feedback (replicates real exam pressure).

03

Per-student written report.

ABRSM-rubric-style report per student within 48 hours: scores per component, written observations, specific things to work on before the real exam.

04

Group debrief (optional).

15-minute spoken debrief with the teacher after the mocks — patterns across the cohort, common pitfalls, suggested practice focus for the final 2–4 weeks.

Frequently asked

For school administrators.

01Do you have official ABRSM examiner status?+

Our adjudicators are not formal ABRSM examiners — that's a separate credential the ABRSM controls. We are *experienced ABRSM teachers* who run mock exams using the real ABRSM rubric. The mock is realistic and the feedback is calibrated, but the result has no official ABRSM weight (you sit the real exam for that).

02Where does the mock happen?+

Either at our Kikuyu studio (familiar exam room for our own students) or at your school / studio if you prefer. Travel within 100 km of Nairobi and Kikuyu is included; further-out venues are quoted with travel.

03How long does each student take?+

Initial through Grade 2: 15 minutes per student. Grade 3–5: 20 minutes. Grade 6–8: 25–30 minutes. Schedule the cohort accordingly.

04What does the per-student report contain?+

A one-page report following the ABRSM rubric: per-component scores (pieces / scales / sight-reading / aural), written observations on technique + interpretation, and 2–3 specific things to work on before the real exam.

05How is it priced?+

Quoted per cohort. Variables: number of students, grade levels, venue, written-report tier. Generally cheaper per student for cohorts of 5+. Written quote within one working day.

06Can the same adjudicator do mocks for multiple grades in one day?+

Yes — common shape. Schedule students in grade order (lowest first) to let the adjudicator warm up the rubric. Up to 10 students in a single day comfortably.
