For schools · Choir director

A choir director for your school.

Schools with a choir that needs a trained ear — for KMF preparation, term-end concerts, school assemblies or just consistent weekly rehearsal direction — can engage a Concerto choir director for a project or a sustained term. ABRSM choral training, set-work expertise, and the discipline of weekly continuity.

What's included

The engagement, end to end.

01

Repertoire programming.

We help select pieces that suit your choir's voice mix, the occasion (KMF / concert / assembly), and any required language work (Latin, English, Swahili, Kikuyu).

02

Sectional + full rehearsals.

Director runs full rehearsals + sectional work (soprano / alto / tenor / bass) as needed. We teach blend, breath, diction and confident performance.

03

KMF rubric awareness.

For KMF entries: rubric-aware coaching, mock adjudications, and presentation polish that competition judges expect.

04

Performance-day support.

Optional add-on: director attends the concert / KMF round / assembly for warm-up + conducting. We'll travel within 100 km of Nairobi/Kikuyu.

Frequently asked

For school administrators.

01What sizes of choir do you work with?+

Anywhere from a 15-voice ensemble to an 80+-voice school choir. Below 15 we'd treat it as a small-group vocal coaching engagement rather than choir direction; above 80 we'd propose multiple sectional rehearsals.

02Do you cover sacred / church choir repertoire?+

Yes — several of our directors came up through church music ministry. We comfortably handle hymnody, anthems, contemporary worship and KMF sacred-song categories.

03Can you teach in Kikuyu, Swahili and other Kenyan languages?+

Yes — we have directors fluent in Kikuyu, Swahili, and several other languages. Diction work is taken seriously at Concerto; we don't allow students to "fake" lyrics they don't understand.

04How is the cost structured?+

Quoted per engagement based on weekly hours, total weeks and choir size. Written quote within one working day; payment by bank transfer, M-Pesa Paybill (247247) or cheque.

05Can the same director cover KMF AND the end-of-term concert?+

Yes — common shape. We extend the same engagement with the same director through both performance dates. Continuity matters enormously to choirs.

06Will you help our music teacher rather than replace them?+

Often — we work alongside school music staff as a specialist add-on rather than a replacement. The director runs the choir specifically; your music staff continues classroom music. We can structure the engagement either way.
